This past Tuesday on Oct. 23, Klein Cain Varsity volleyball went head to head with Klein Oak volleyball for their very last game of the season, and their last ever Varsity match for the 2018-2019 school year.

The game is typically played with six players on a team. The outside hitter, the right side hitter, the opposite hitter, the setter, the middle blocker, and the libero. In Varsity Volleyball, the game can be played up to five sets, and the best three out of five wins. At Klein Cain, we have three volleyball teams, Freshman, JV, and Varsity. On the last game of the season, the starting players on the floor were Erin Pali, Gaby Caraveo, Autumn Carter, Kayla Humphreys, Lexi Glynn, and Hannah Quinlan.

The first set, a game lasting until one team scores 25 points, was an Oak victory with the final score being 25-23. The second set went to oak again with a score of 25-22. Afterward, the Cain team started to improve and score more points. The third set was 25-21, a comeback Hurricane victory, the fourth was 25-13, a Hurricane victory and the fifth was 15-12, also a Hurricane victory. Players on the floor played their heart out in the match against Oak, and at the end of the day the hurricanes’ determination helped them succeed.

“We kept talking each other up, and we didn’t give up,” Gaby Caraveo, setter and opposite hitter said. 

According to Caraveo, there’s a lot of work, effort, and teamwork to be put into the sport.

“No, winning games did not come easy,” Caraveo said. “We were playing against teams with seniors.”

Through teamwork and determination, a lesson was learned amongst the girls this season.

“If we stick together we can do anything…next season we can improve ourselves by believing in ourselves, and learning how to sometimes handle losing,” Caraveo said.
