Huge damage has been taken to our neighbors in the Dallas and Fort Worth area were shaken as they were hit by a giant tornado over the weekend. Luckily nobody was killed or even severely injured in Dallas, although there were six minor injuries that needed medical attention.
“Considering the path that the storm took, it went across a pretty densely populated part of our city, I think we should consider ourselves very fortunate that we did not lose any lives, no fatalities and no serious injuries in last night’s storm,” Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said.
The Aftermath
Even though nobody was severely injured over 100,000 residents over the Dallas/Fort Worth area were left with no power. Thousands of public school students will need to attend different schools for the rest of the year as their schools were destroyed. The storm was powerful enough to destroy building rooftops snap utility poles in half and even knock down trees.
“Despite the fact that we didn’t lose any lives last night, I think we all know that we’ve suffered some significant property damage in our city,” Johnson said.
The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado was in Dallas at around 9:30 p.m, and it was rated an EF-3 storm on Monday with winds up to 140 MPH. The storm was powerful enough to destroy building rooftops snap utility poles in half and even knock down trees.
“No less than 50 calls for utility wires down and over 40 natural gas leaks,” Dallas police officers.
Gloomy Storm Bright Future
Even though the tornado has gone and passed through Dallas residents are still encouraged to stay inside from 7 p.m.-7 a.m. until Thursday. The storm is projected to bring heavy winds to Tennessee and the central Gulf Coast.
“My heart goes out to the Texans impacted by this severe weather, and the people of Texas can rest assured that the state will do everything it can to assist those affected by these horrific storms,” Abbott said in a statement.
