This past Friday, the Hurricanes stormed their way to a victory against the Woodland Highlanders with the final score of 28-14. Though Cain pulled off the win, last season’s matchup against the Highlanders resulted in a loss for Cain, 54-7. This rival match served as a momentous win against the Woodlands and placed the Hurricanes second in the district.

“Our team works harder than any other school every day,” Cain varsity running back, Charles Jones said. “Sometimes we make mistakes but I will always expect my teammates to come out on top.”

Throughout the game, Cain’s defense forced two fumble recoveries and an interception.  While defense took care of business slowly pushing back the Woodlands, Cain’s offense pressured the defense resulting in two passing touchdowns, and 163 rushing yards. At halftime, the Hurricanes led the scoreboard, 14-7.

“It was exhilarating,” Caleb Soto said. “The boys and I worked so hard during the offseason for moments like these.”

Coming into the second half, the Highlanders scored their second, and final touchdown of the night making the score 21-14. While these rival teams kept the game close in the second half, the Hurricanes were able to ultimately shut down the Highlanders in the fourth quarter.

“It was truly amazing seeing how much our boys have grown since last year,” Alyssa Mauz said.”It was amazing seeing them win the game.”

The win at the Woodlands landed the Hurricanes with an overall record of 3-2 and a district record of 2-1. This upcoming Friday the boys will face Klein Collins in a rival match. Similar to the matchup against the woodlands, Collins has previously beat Cain in an upset with the final score being 56-14.

“I think our team has developed from last year,” Aaron Jordan said. “We have key players that can win us this ball game.”

Preparing for the Friday Game

As the boys prepare for the game on Friday, coaches and students will wear lavender to not only support the team but also support cancer awareness. While the boys match up against KC will be tough, their hard work and gratitude remain the same.

“We’re confident we’re a threat to everyone in this district,” Soto said.
