Superintendent Bret Champion Transfers to a Different School District
On May 21, 2019, Klein ISD Superintendent, Dr. Bret Champion, announced that he will be leaving Klein ISD. The energetic figurehead of Promise to Purpose will be moving to the Medford Oregon School District where he accepted a superintendent position beginning July 1, 2019.
“This decision was not an easy one, as the Klein community is a wonderful place to live and learn, with strong people bringing our shared vision to life for students every day,” Champion said in his letter. “With both our boys recently graduating college and after a personal medical scare (all is well, thank goodness), I began to consider my next chapter as an educator and person.”
He’s proud of the continued accomplishments the district has made. However, he’s still eager to see what his future holds for him. Currently, the district is beginning to consider different people to fill his position once he departs.
“We are beginning the process of searching for our new Superintendent in
accordance with our Board Policies and Texas law,” Georgan Reitmeier, the Klein ISD Board of Trustees president said in a letter. “The position will post internally… we hope to name a Lone Finalist in early June and will call a Board meeting once that decision is made.”
Still in Good Hands
Champion signed off with a letter expressing gratitude for the staff and schools he’s led for the past 3 years. Furthermore, in his departure letter, he expressed confidence that Klein ISD will still remain with capable leaders.
“Because of the remarkable people in Klein ISD, the district is in great hands, and I am
confident that the wonderful work of ensuring that EVERY student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose will continue,” Champion said in his letter. “It has been an honor to walk alongside you on this journey.”
