Maya Poduval Sells Her Painting at Rodeo

During spring break, Klein Cain student Maya Poduval sold her painting at the Houston Rodeo on March 10, 2019. The buyer purchased the painting for a total of $10,000 at the school art auction. The painting is called “Waiting our Turn” and depicts three guys waiting to participate in an event.

Creating the painting wasn’t an easy task for Poduval. She gave much of her time to perfect the artwork as much as she did.

“It took me about two and a half months,” Poduval said. “I spent about 60 hours and it took a lot of effort and patience.”

She has been attempting to win the auction since she was young, and was proud of her accomplishment last week.

“My artwork won Best of Show, and then I found out it also went to auction,” Poduval said. “I have been participating in the rodeo art competition ever since elementary school and I have been working towards winning auction for a long time.”

During the auction, people gave different offers on what they’d be willing to pay for the painting.

“I felt like my hard work finally paid off,” Poduval said. “During the process, people bid on my artwork and the highest bidder bought my artwork.”

Poduval enjoyed being able to express what goes on in the rodeo and getting to use her art skills.

“My primary motivation for creating my painting was to capture the hard work and anticipation that can be seen at the Rodeo,” Poduval said. “I also liked the photo I chose to paint because of the vibrant colors and details.”

Furthermore, accumulating that amount of money isn’t something she’s taken for granted. Thanks to her painting, she now has money she hopes to use for her education.

“I will be saving up the money for college,” Poduval said. “This was my first time at the rodeo art auction and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was surprised and grateful that my artwork sold for $10,000.”
