Supporting Education
H-E-B recently announced the finalists for the 2019 Excellence in Education competition. The finalists of this program will receive $100,000 who will then move on to compete at a state-wide level. This competition is a way for H-E-B to support education throughout the state of Texas. This year, Klein ISD is one of the finalists in the Large School Districts category. Other finalists in this category include Austin ISD, Socorro ISD, United ISD, and Burleson ISD.
“Created in 2002, the H‑E‑B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment,” the H-E-B website stated. “Through this program, H‑E‑B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same.”
Finalists
A Klein ISD early education and preschool has also become a finalist in the 2019 competition. In the Early Childhood Education category, Grace England Early Childhood & Pre-K Center is also a finalist. Should they win, they would receive $25,000 dollars as a cash prize to help further their program.
Other finalists in this category include Crockett Early Education School, Bonham Prekindergarten, The House of Tiny Treasures, and Child Inc.
“To determine overall statewide winners, a panel of judges visits each district, early childhood facility and school board, tours campuses and talks with administration, staff, parents and community members,” the H-E-B website stated.
To determine finalists, a panel of judges are going to each district and early childhood facility. The purpose of these visits is to determine the quality of the finalists in person. This includes ensuring the judges speak to staff and walk throughout the campus.
H-E-B is going to announce the winners of the competition May 5 in Austin, Texas. Large school districts, such as Klein ISD, stand to receive $100,000 in grants while the state’s smaller districts will receive $50,000.
