This past Saturday, Feb. 16, junior Kiana Lowery competed in the first varsity track meet of the year for Klein Cain. Katy Seven Lakes High School hosted the meet.
At the track meet, Lowery placed sixth place in the discus event and placed second place in the shot put event.
“I think it was an average performance for me,” Lowery said. “But I know I can do better. I have a lot of room to grow.”
The rest of the track team was largely made up of students who had never competed at a varsity meet before. Although they did perform well, some were surprised by how tough the competition was.
“It was the first time for a lot of them,” Lowery said. “They didn’t do as well as they might’ve hoped but that’s expected for newcomers. I feel like they’ll do better at the next meet this Saturday.”
The track team practiced hard so they could prove themselves at their first meet. The varsity track team looks to get even better as the season continues. The next meet is this Saturday, Feb. 23.
“We practiced Monday through Friday,” Lowery said. “It was a lot of work, especially if you’re a student. But I think it paid off.”
