This year, Klein Cain will host its first-ever Germanfest for Klein ISD on Friday, March 1, 2019. The event will go from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and includes various performances and an authentic German meal. The festival is a long-standing tradition for the district and Klein Cain will be pulling out the stops in an effort to carry the torch this year.
Students should consider attending this event if they wish to experience a new ethnic culture. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about Germany and its many traditions.
What is Germanfest?
Held by Klein ISD, Germanfest celebrates the Klein area’s historic and cultural roots. The event celebrates German culture, with performances by various choirs in the area as well as a performance from a traditional German band as well as an authentic traditional German meal. Games will also be held for children to play.
Before the event begins, the Klein area’s founding families, Dr. Brett Champion (Klein ISD Superintendent), and a representative from the German consulate will hold a presentation welcoming attendees.
At Germanfest, attendees will have an authentic traditional German meal prepared by Klein Nutritional Services from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The meal includes roast beef, potato salad, butter beans, coleslaw, home-baked bread, and apple strudel. In addition to the meal, attendees will have the opportunity to view performances at 6 p.m. These performances will include performances by Texas Dutchman and Das ist Lustig, traditional German bands, as well as performances by the Klein Cain Men’s Choir, the Blackshear Elementary Children’s Choir, and the Trinity Lutheran Choir. Children will also have the opportunity to play a variety of games at booths hosted by Klein Cain’s German students.
March 1 will mark Klein ISD’s 48th year of hosting the event, with the first one held in 1971. Last year, nearly 600 people attended the event. If anyone feels uncomfortable about attending Germanfest, they shouldn’t. Everybody should come and attend Germanfest even if they don’t affiliate yourself with German culture. Germanfest provides everybody with the opportunity to view and experience German culture.
