Introducing Cain’s New Musical Performance

Klein Cain Theater is taking on the story of James and the Giant Peach as a musical. This tale is about an orphan boy who finds refuge from his crazy life. Along with the help of a few friendly insects, and a “guardian angel”, Ladahlord, James finds his happy ending.

Theater director, Matthew Robinson expressed his take on the show, and what it’s about.

“The show is about escape, imagination, and filling in those gaps in your life, ” Robinson said. “We follow James after his parents die, …but he is able to fill that with joy, and the people that care about him.”

Since November, Robinson has been working alongside the cast constructively critiquing the actors.

“We started rehearsing since before Thanksgiving, and will rehearse through the 2nd, our closing night,” Robinson said.

Though the story of James and the Giant Peach will be showcased by the theater students,  other students have been working behind the scenes to help make the story come alive. Tech Theater students have worked together to create the giant peach itself that James escapes to.

“We started just before break,” Sophia Escontrias said. “So about four or five weeks.”

With the use of wood and steel, the students were able to create the enormous peach, the iconic symbol of  “James and the Giant Peach”.

“We made many different platforms for the set, that the actors interact within the show,” Escontrias said.

With all the hard work these students put in the show, the theater department encourages everyone to watch the show.

“It’s (the show) a great message for people today… surround yourself with people that make you a better person,” Robinson said
