The Legacies are the official dance team here at Klein Cain. This team competes at several competitions such as state, regional, or national competitions, they also perform at halftime for Varsity football games, basketball games, pep rallies and even the end-of-the-year Spring Show.
Legacies provide a lot for incoming students to look forward to. Sophomore Social Media Chair Lindsey Roberts believes they can anticipate creating dynamics within the team.
“Potential Legacies could look forward to building new friendships with their teammates and with the coaches. Our coaches are super open and caring towards us,” Roberts said. “They can look forward to getting a really cool experience throughout their high school career.”
Friendship and support are major factors students could gain from this dance team according to Senior Captain Emma Murphy.
“They could look forward to new friendships and a family-like experience with a bunch of supportive people that surround you every day,” Murphy said.
For many participants, like Junior Social Coordinator Shawna Thomas, the constant change of activities is what makes things exciting.
“It’s different from any sport ever because you’re working all the time but it’s always something different. You have football season, contest season and then we also have a show at the end of the year and I think it just keeps things interesting and it’s really fun to do stuff like that,” Thomas said.
UDA is a competition where dance teams across the country come together and perform at the Most Magical Place on Earth, the Walt Disney World Resort. Winning wasn’t the only main factor for Thomas.
“It was so fun just working hard and then putting our work out there,” Thomas said. “I think it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Honestly, it didn’t even matter what place we got, it was just so much fun dancing with everybody there.”
Friendships are created throughout the year, but Roberts believed the bond from the team only grew stronger from the competition.
“I’ve been a competitive dancer since I was little, but I’ve never experienced anything like that,” Roberts said. “And I think that competition brought us all together as a team so much more than we have been before.”
This experience was a rare and memorable opportunity for Murphy, especially for her final year of Legacies.
“It was honestly life-changing. It was like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that barely anybody gets to do,” Murphy said. “Stepping onto the mat was one of my top moments being on Legacies and being able to do that my Senior year, especially placing 2nd, it was an experience that I’ve never had before.”
