Jack Nelson, the president of the Anime Club, has finally made it a reality after months of no activity from the club, he has begun to rebuild it from his interest in anime.
“I just saw the poster in the hallway. Before, I didn’t even know it existed, but I’ve seen a lot of anime, and I wanted to check it out,” said Jack.
Due to the anime club’s recent appearance, few members are active right now, but Jack Nelson has come up with brilliant ideas to combat this inactivity and get the party started.
“First we kind of want to start on recruitment, because there’s not a lot of members right now, mostly we’ll focus on activities in the classroom on Tuesdays,” said Nelson.
Caleb Guenther, a history teacher and the sponsor of the Anime Club, has shown to have full trust in the members, letting them control and organize the club professionally.
“Right now we’re kind of early in what we decide and that is all up to the members, ” said Guenther.
Although a sponsor, Mr.Guenther likes watching anime presenting his class in a “One Piece” theme.
“I was inspired to sponsor it because I like anime, obviously whenever someone walks in my classroom, I have a lot of One Piece stuff,” said Guenther.
Guenther even has a favorite character from the anime “One Piece”, showcasing his increased interest.
“If I had to be basic it would be Zoro, but I would also choose Nami because she’s a historian,” said Guenther.
One Piece, a more popular anime, has impacted the world through entertainment, Nelson wants to create a safe space for everyone by implementing all the animes that are currently well-known.
“A variety of anime which we’ll probably focus on the more popular ones so that most of the members can take part and know what we’re talking about,” said Nelson.
Essentially, the club is open to many drafts and ideas, as well as suggestions from interested members, but Nelson has already made many ideas, displaying his leadership of the club.
“I’m thinking we do quizzes, maybe some crafts with Japanese culture and drawing in the anime style, and also try to get feedback from other members,” said Nelson.
Nelson has also devised a way to spread the word about the Club by creating Anime Slides around the school TV to try to interest other students who like Anime.
“The TV’s around the school maybe add the Anime Club there, we can make a schoology group to have more structure and I’m thinking of asking some of my friends to spread the word and I think it’ll start growing from there,” said Nelson.
Teegan ONeal, a member of the Anime Club has provided posters for the club to attract members, though the first meeting didn’t get the right recognition.
“We first started with the posters, and it worked a lot of people came it’s just that the activities were underwhelming, and people were uninterested at the first meeting,” said ONeal.
ONeal also showcases ways that the Anime Club will continue to improve and create fun events for the upcoming club members.
“We are planning to do an activity like anime of the month or manga of the month, a lot of games and drawings that can engage people,” said ONeal.
