By now, staff and students have become familiar with the new E-Pass system set up by the district. The E-Passes are online hallway and bathroom passes located on the student dashboard.
“E-Pass has been in the district since, I believe, two school years ago. Several schools have already been using the E-Pass program,” Assistant Principal Roberto Lopez said.
Some students wondered what the purpose of the E-Passes are. Questions are circulating about the necessity of a bathroom or hallway pass in a school.
“We can identify who is out in the hallways. We are able to identify the exact location by looking at the E-Pass program,” Lopez said.
The system measures how long a student is out of the classroom, from the time the student leaves to the time they return.
“It allows them to keep track of how long they take,” Student Kaitlyn Fenske said.
It sets a reminder of the 10/10 rule and will not allow a pass to be submitted until the appropriate time. It also informs the student of the status of the designated restroom assigned to their teacher’s class.
“As administrators, if we see that there are too many students in a particular restroom, we can make restrictions,” Lopez said.
If the limit of people currently signed up for that location is reached, you must wait to submit the pass.
“It stops people from doing bad things in the bathroom and lets people that just go for the bathroom, go to the bathroom,” Student Alexander Philips said.
It is clear that in a situation where all students must be accounted for, the E-Passes can easily pinpoint which students are out of the classroom, which helps keep students safe and secure.
