It’s that time of year; time for both the SAT and PSAT. This year’s PSAT is taking place for sophomores and juniors on October 25, 2022, at Klein Cain, and the SAT is for seniors who have not yet taken it on October 26, 2022. For juniors who want to get a head start on the SAT, there is an SAT scheduled on December 3rd.
There are two current options for Cain students wanting to take their SAT; you can wait until it is offered on campus sometime in the spring semester, or you can go to College Board and register for the December 3rd date for approximately $60.
Taking the SAT is entirely up to personal preference and circumstance. However, many recommend taking the test as early as possible. If someone has already taken the SAT but wishes to retake it, then they can retake it when it is offered at the school. For students considering taking the SAT on December 3rd, the registration deadline is November 3rd. To register for the SAT, visit the College Board website here.
Once you register to take the SAT, you should get a test ticket. This ticket, along with your student ID, is required for admission to your test site.
Before your test day, it’s important to make sure you have the following items.
- #2 pencils
- A sharpener
- Printed-out admission ticket
- Photo ID
- An approved calculator for half of the math section
- A snack, water, and a bag are recommended
On the SAT, the math section is divided into a calculator and no calculator section, but the calculator needs to be on the approved list which is linked below. To find out if your calculator meets the requirements go to College Board- SAT calculator Policy.
Studying for the SAT is also an important part of preparing for the test. Studying in advance can allow students to feel more confident on the day of the test.
Hayden Johnson, a senior at Klein Cain High school, said he studies by, “using the prep packet hand-out,” and going through his old notes from past math classes. This allowed him to, “become more familiar with the things I have forgotten.”
