This past Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Francisco 49ers in the Superbowl LIV in Miami, Florida. Just before the game began the two teams lined up at the 24-yard line in silence to honor Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and others tragically killed in a helicopter crash. As Demi Lovato sang the national anthem, the crowd cheered on anxious for the start of the game. With the coin flip deciding in favor of KC, the captains chose to receive the ball first quarter. With the final seconds ticked down for kickoff the game began.
As first-quarter kicked off, KC QB Patrick Mahomes threw several passes over the heads of the 49ers defense in hopes of scoring a touchdown. After turning over the ball, the 49ers managed to score a field goal against KC’s defense making the score 3-0. With KC back on offense, Patrick Mahomes took several offensive plays pushing up the defense. With a little under 4 minutes left in the quarter, KC scored their first touchdown of the night making the score 3-7.
With second-quarter up and running the two teams took turns battling through offense and defense putting up scores on the board and preventing the other team from doing the same. Although the game continues to shift in power between KC and the 49ers by halftime the two teams were tied up 10-10, which left them at a stalemate as they headed back to their locker rooms. As the halftime show began Shakira took the stage performing a number of hits including Hips don’t lie, Waka Waka and a cover of I Like it where guest star Bad Bunny made an appearance. As Shakira showed off her musical talent playing different instruments like the electric guitar and the drums the crowd cheered on as she rocked the stage in the final moments of her individual act.
With the stage illuminated with fire and electrified with the dancing, the Miami stadium roared as Jennifer Lopez took the stage. As J Lo sang through Jenny from the block, Get right and Mi Gente, J Lo’s daughter Emme Maribel Muñiz made an appearance nearing the end of her performance, and together they performed Born in the USA. In the final minutes of the performance, Shakira joined the stars on the stage and they finished their performance leaving the crowed wild and ready for the rest of the Superbowl.
With the score all tied as third quarter kicked off, the two teams continued their battle for the win. Despite their efforts, KC was rendered scoreless as the 49ers scored 10 points against their defense. Although they attempted a comeback in the 3rd quarter they were unable to produce on the scoreboard and the 49ers took a 10 point lead over KC into the start of the 4th quarter.
In the 4th quarter QB, Patrick Mahomes lead his offense for a 4th quarter comeback scoring 21 points unanswered by the 49ers defense. Since the offense continued to relentlessly score against the 49ers in the 4th with just a little under 2 minutes left KC led by 11, and they called the game as they celebrated. With the final seconds of the game ticked down, KC head coach Andy Reid was drenched with Gatorade by his players and the life of the Kansas City fans went wild.
As KC celebrated their hard-earned win, social media feeds filled with comments on both teams performance, and the halftime show. With the result of this years Superbowl fans showed excitement through social media anxious of next years Superbowl and those to come.
