On Jan. 28, boys’ had their first official home game against the Conroe Tigers. So far, the boys’ season record is 1-4-3 overall. While the matchup against the Conroe Tigers was a rival match the Hurricanes looked to defeat the Tigers for the first district win of the season. Although the boys previously tied against the Tigers 1-1, they looked to lock in and finish off the Tigers in hopes of settling the score.
“I’m very proud of the hard work the boys have put in this season,” Adrian Ramirez said. “As we continue to grow as a program, every year the expectations are higher. I think the boys have risen to the challenge which should make for a very exciting year for us this year.”
With the season just recently beginning, the team is hopeful for a fruitful season, and are looking to make it as far as playoffs. Although the boys didn’t make it that far last season, during the off-season the team put in work hoping to improve from last year’s faults. With the hard work the team put into improvement, the coaches are proud and hope their hard work comes to light during the season.
“The ultimate goal this year is to challenge for a playoff spot. In our district, that is a very ambitious goal, but I believe year 3 could be a historic year for our young program,” Adrian Ramirez said.
With the first home game of the season gone, many people are excited to see the boys produce this season and cheer for them along the way. With the support of their fanbase, the boys look to make a name for themselves this season, and also look to make memories for the seniors graduating in the spring.
“The ultimate goal is always to continue to develop their skill as soccer players and character as young men,” coach Andrew Fairleigh said. “I want them to experience as much success as they can in soccer, but I also want them to be able to take things away from this experience that they can use in all other aspects of their life. So far I’d say we’re meeting that goal.”
With the pressure of graduation and the season, some are unsure of what’s next in the chapter of their life but hope to thrive and be successful. Since this season is potential last for some of the senior the boys hope to go all-in for their teammates.
“It feels almost unreal because I don’t know what I will do after this team,” Elkin Quintero said. “I’m going to work my butt off and try and help my team make it to the top by getting better and working harder than my teammates and my opponents to become a better athlete on the field.”
